NABIS LORE: THE CHRONICLES OF MIDGARDEN

The Age of Seeds, the Age of Crowns, and the Coming of the Autos

I. The First Sprouting — The Age of Seeds

Long before Gardeners raised banners and before Plants learned the art of war, Midgarden was a wild and unclaimed land.

The soil itself was alive.

From the deep Compost of the world rose the First Plants, born not of kings or conquest, but of balance. They grew beneath twin suns and silver moons, drawing power from Canna that flowed like invisible rivers beneath the Garden. This ancient force shaped all life. Those who learned to guide it became the first Gardeners.

In those days, there were no dynasties. Only groves.

Plants grew tall and unafraid. Forests of green glass shimmered in the wind. The Compost Piles of fallen leaves became sacred places, believed to be the birthplace of memory itself.

Then came division.

Some Plants grew tall and lean, drinking sunlight and wind. Others grew low and dense, feeding on shadow and stone. And from this difference arose the first great races.

They would later be called:

  • The Sativas

  • The Indicas

And thus began the Age of Crowns.

II. The Rise of the Sativas — The Sun Dynasty

The Sativas claimed the eastern skies of Midgarden, where the light was strongest and the winds carried seeds across vast distances. Their cities were grown from living vines and crystal stalks that towered above the plains.

Their first great ruler was The Durban Poisoner, known as the Sunblade of the East.

He was tall as a pine and sharp as fire. His mind was swift, his strikes faster still. It was said he could command Plants to grow in a single turn of the sun.

Under his rule, the Sativas built an empire of speed and vision. They valued motion, trade, and prophecy. Their scholars learned to bend Canna into lightning spells called Treatments, striking foes before they could root themselves in the Garden.

Beside him stood two master artisans:

The Goldsmith of Acapulco, who forged Heirlooms from molten sunlight.
These artifacts granted power to entire armies and were passed down through generations.

And The Silversmith of Haze, who shaped moon-metal into instruments of illusion. His creations allowed Sativa armies to vanish in mist and reappear behind enemy lines.

For centuries, the Sun Dynasty ruled most of Midgarden’s open plains. Their banners bore the sigil of the Rising Leaf.

But while the Sativas reached for the sky, the Indicas gathered strength below.

III. The Shadow Kingdom of the Indicas

In the western valleys and mountain roots of Midgarden, the Indicas grew thick and unyielding. Their cities were carved into stone and root, protected by walls of bark and obsidian soil.

They believed in endurance over speed. Where the Sativas struck quickly, the Indicas waited.

Their first queen was Black Domina, called the Mother of Night.

She wore a crown grown from dark petals and commanded Plants that could absorb damage meant for others. Under her rule, the Indicas mastered Pests and Pesticides — enchantments that lingered in the Garden, slowly weakening enemies over time.

Her successors were legends:

Granddaddy Purple, the Dream King, who brought peace through fear and calm through conquest. His armies moved slowly but crushed all resistance.

And Black Dog, the Silent General, who never spoke in battle. It was said his mere presence caused enemy Gardens to wither.

For generations, the Indicas held the western half of Midgarden in an iron root.

Between Sativa and Indica lay an uneasy truce.

Until the Hybrids were born.

IV. The Age of Blending — Rise of the Hybrids

The Hybrids emerged not from conquest, but from forbidden union.

When Sativa and Indica seeds were planted together in the same soil, a new race appeared. Neither tall nor stout alone, but balanced between both worlds.

They called themselves the Hybrids, and their capital was built at the center of Midgarden where sunlight met shadow.

Their first champion was The Blue Dreamer.

He was beloved by both sides. His armies were versatile, able to strike swiftly and endure long battles. His rule ushered in an era of uneasy peace.

After him came King Kush, who sought to unite all races under one crown. He declared himself High Gardener of Midgarden and demanded fealty from both Sativas and Indicas.

Some bent the knee.

Others rebelled.

The rebellion was led by Snake Bite, a cunning warlord whose venomous strategies used both Treatments and Pests to tear kingdoms apart from within.

The War of Three Roots burned for decades.

Gardens were destroyed. Compost Piles overflowed. The old balance of Midgarden was broken.

When the war ended, the Hybrids ruled—but their victory was hollow. The land was scarred, and the ancient Canna rivers ran thin.

Thus ended the Age of Blending.

V. The Long Decline — The Withering Era

Centuries passed. The great dynasties weakened.

The Sativas fractured into rival houses. The Indicas retreated into their mountain keeps. The Hybrids turned against themselves.

The once-glorious Heirlooms of Acapulco and Haze were lost to time. Treatments grew scarce. Pests spread unchecked.

Midgarden became a land of small wars and fading legends.

Gardeners still battled, but they fought over scraps of power instead of empires.

It was during this time that strange new Plants began to appear.

They grew faster than any before them.
They bloomed without seasons.
They required no guidance from sun or shadow.

They called themselves the Autos.

VI. The Coming of the Autos — The New Bloom

The Autos rose from the forgotten Compost Piles of Midgarden. They were born of chaos and adaptation.

Where others required careful Canna flow, the Autos thrived on unpredictability.

Two figures emerged as their champions:

Red Eye, whose gaze could see every weakness in the Garden. His Plants bloomed in a single turn and struck without warning.

And The Pink Runt, small in stature but vast in influence. Her forces multiplied quickly and overwhelmed old armies through numbers alone.

The elder races feared them.

The Sativas called them unnatural.
The Indicas called them unstable.
The Hybrids saw opportunity.

The Autos did not seek crowns. They sought change.

Their rise signaled the end of the old dynasties and the beginning of a new age.

VII. The Present Age — The War of Four Gardens

Now Midgarden stands divided into four powers:

-The fractured Sativas, clinging to their Sun Cities

-The enduring Indicas, guarding their mountain roots

-The Hybrids, desperate to reclaim unity

-The Autos, spreading like wildfire across the land

Old legends walk again:

-The Durban Poisoner’s disciples return to the east

-Black Domina’s descendants stir in shadow

-The Blue Dreamer’s banner flies once more

-Red Eye and the Pink Runt gather armies of the new bloom

The Garden is once again contested.

Canna flows stronger than it has in centuries.
Treatments are cast daily.
Pests infest battlefields.
Heirlooms resurface from ancient vaults.
Compost Piles grow tall with fallen cards.

The fate of Midgarden now rests not with kings, but with Gardeners.

Each player becomes a master of Plants.
Each battle reshapes history.
Each deck decides which dynasty will rise again.

VIII. Prophecy of the Final Bloom

Ancient texts from the Silversmith of Haze speak of a time when all races must unite or be consumed by the Compost of the world.

They call it The Final Bloom.

A time when:

-Sativa speed

-Indica strength

-Hybrid balance

-Auto evolution

must become one Garden.

Whether this prophecy brings salvation or ruin is unknown.

But one truth is certain:

Midgarden will never return to what it was.

The Age of Seeds is over.
The Age of Crowns has fallen.
The Age of the Autos has begun.

And the Gardeners prepare for war.
